What Helps with Menopausal Symptoms?

The Answer May be at your Feet

An interesting study was published in the journal of Menopause on September 20, 2022, regarding the impact of foot massage given to postmenopausal women. The study examined if postmenopausal women were given foot massages, would their anxiety, fatigue and sleep issues improve?

The study was a randomized-controlled study done in Turkey with a total of 70 women (35 experimental, 35 control). The experimental group received a foot massage daily for 7 days and the control group received no intervention. The results showed that the women who received foot massages increased their sleep on average by one hour a night. They reported less fatigue and anxiety compared to the control group. Of course, more research is needed, but I am all for simple solutions that can make an impact in a person’s life. I do not know about you, but I would gladly take an extra hour of sleep a night.

Menopause and perimenopause come with some significant mental and physical health side effects. More research and information on lessening the symptoms of menopause and perimenopause is needed. Many women are made to feel like their symptoms are not valid or that their concerns are dismissed as “that is just what happens in menopause”.

If you have ever considered therapy for working through the side effects of menopause or perimenopause, I strongly encourage you to reach out. I will provide you with compassion and support. I offer convenient scheduling for in person sessions in the Kansas City metro and telehealth options throughout the state of Kansas.
